Xiaomi YU7 Claims Top Spot as China’s Best-Selling Vehicle for January 2026
In a historic shift for the automotive market, the Xiaomi YU7 has officially become the best-selling passenger car in China for January 2026. This milestone is particularly significant for Xiaomi, a company that only recently entered the car manufacturing space, as it outpaced established giants like Tesla, whose Model Y fell to 20th place in the rankings.

A Rapid Rise to the Top
The achievement was confirmed on February 12th by Xu Jieyun, Special Assistant to the Chairman of Xiaomi Group. Taking to social media to celebrate the success, Xu expressed his gratitude to consumers, noting that the YU7 had secured the monthly sales championship.

According to retail data from Autohome, Xiaomi moved 37,869 units of the YU7 in January alone. The car’s journey to the #1 position has been characterized by an aggressive upward trajectory since its debut:

August 2025: Debuted at 23rd place.

September 2025: Climbed to 14th.

Oct – Nov 2025: Broke into the top 10, hovering between 5th and 6th.

December 2025: Reached the podium at 3rd place.

January 2026: Secured the #1 overall ranking in domestic retail sales.

Market Shift
The YU7’s dominance highlights a cooling demand for older electric models in the Chinese market. While Xiaomi continues to gain momentum, the Tesla Model Y—a long-time leader—faced a difficult start to the year, struggling to maintain its footing in the top 20.

This shift signals that Xiaomi’s ecosystem integration and aggressive scaling are resonating deeply with Chinese drivers, setting a new benchmark for what a "tech-first" car company can achieve in record time.
